With 65 years of experience, COMERA is not only a high-quality French kitchen design specialist, but also, first and foremost, the French brand that created the fitted kitchen.
In 1945, France entered the Post-War Period and needed to rebuild. The immediate needs of the French population consisted of rebuilding quickly at a reasonable cost. At that time, major works were conducted in architecture and home economics. This reconstruction phase saw the emergence of new needs in the French population, particularly in terms of their lifestyle which they wanted to see revitalised and modernised. The population called for convenient fittings and mechanised household tasks; industrial design was encouraged and developed: the entire environment needed to be functional. In this context, Marcel Gascoin, a visionary cabinet maker with a passion for design, introduced his "rational" units to the general public, inspired by furnishing techniques in boats and passenger ships in particular. He thus founded COmpagnie des MEubles RAtionnels (the rational unit campony), known as COMERA.
The spearheads of the architectural principles applied by Marcel Gascoin were functionality and efficiency. During his time fitting out ships, he learned two important lessons: rationality, first and foremost, as no space is wasted on ships and the unit needs to be as practical and compact as possible. Secondly, material resistance: simple and efficient units evoking the brass-reinforced teak structures found in "traditional" ship fittings.
For his kitchens, Marcel Gascoin had the innovative idea of creating modular units that can be fitted together to maximise storage space: the fitted kitchen specialty was born.

From the 1960s, COMERA kitchens went from strength to strength. With their avant-garde design, they enjoyed a strong reputation and excellent public image, with major advertising campaigns in the 1970s.
In the 1980s, COMERA developed its offering and spread to Northern Europe, particularly to the U.K. COMERA displays its innovations in major trade fairs, such as Salon des Arts Ménagers from 1988, or, more recently, the Paris Trade Fair.
The business has succeeded in sustaining its craftsmanship, while adapting it to modern production methods, resulting in a cutting-edge plant. At the present time, and since its inception, COMERA's production has remained in France in accordance with the expertise responsible for its origins. Its production site is located at Saint Philbert de Bouaine in the Vendée region of France.
As the inventor of the fitted kitchen in France, COMERA's aim is to make your life easier so that your kitchen will bring you pleasure every day.
